Pollution by a firm in the course of its production which causes nuisance or harm to others.

The harvesting by one fishing company in the ocean depletes the stock of available fish for the other companies and overfishing may result. This is an example of a common property resource, sometimes referred to as the Tragedy of the commons.

Individuals collectively choose to use a public transportation resource (such as roads), imposing congestion costs on all other users.

Analogy for pollution:

Pollution is analogous to the addition of certain unwanted substances to our atmosphere that effects the function of atmospheric factors and also effect the living organism in direct or indirect manner.

The pollution term can be used for air, water and soil mainly. Like in air pollution, we add certain unwanted gases and particles which are harmful for plants as well as animals whereas in water pollution, we add the unwanted materials and chemicals to water bodies.
