Gymnosperm :-

  • In gymnosperm the reproductive structure are cones which are uni-sexual
  • The ovules are exposed, i.e. , they are not located in ovary..
  • After fertilization, the ovules develop into naked seeds.
  • The microscopes & megaspores are produced by male & female cones.
  • The pollen grain falls and germinate directly on the microply of the ovules.
  • Fertilization is simple.
  • Endosperm is haploid.
  • In gymnosperm the pollination is by wind alone.
  • In gymnosperm, generally the xylem contain only tracheids, vessels are absent.
  • The phloem has no companion cells.

Angiosperm :-

  • In angiosperm, the flowers are the reproductive organ & they may be both unisexual & bisexual.
  • The ovules are enclosed in the ovary.
  • After fertilization, the ovules develop into seeds inside the fruit.
  • The microspores are produced in anther while the mega-spores are produced in ovules in the ovary in flowers.
  • The pollen grains falls on the stigma, germinate and the pollen tube carries the male gamete to the ovary.
  • Fertilization is double.
  • Endosperm is triploid.
  • In angiosperm, different agents like winds, insects, bats etc.are envolved in pollination.
  • Angiosperm vessels are always in present.
  • Companion cells are present.
