After electrolytic refining the insoluble impurities from the impure metal strip of the metal get settled below the anode.this is known as anode mud.

Anode mud:

  • Anode mud is deposit found in the form of insoluble substance. A deposit of these insoluble substance and residue was found in the anode in the commercial electrolysis.
  • The anode mud is also called as anode slime. In the copper refining , the slime contains all the precious metals that has been recovered.
  • The anode slime is produced around 800000 tons per year which is used for gold  and silver purification.
