Hi....!!

As every substance expands on heating and contracts on cooling , water also contracts on cooling but upto 4°C . Cooling water below 4°C and upto 0°C makes water expand . This is anomalous(unusual) expansion of water .

As density is inversely proportional to volume , ice at 0°C(lesser density) floats on water at 4°C (greater density).
