Explanation:

GIVEN THAT :- The anomalous expansion of water helps preserve aquatic life during very cold weather. When temperature falls, the top layer of water in a pond contracts, becomes denser and sinks to the bottom. A circulation is thus set up until the entire water in the pond reaches its maximum density at 4°C. EXPLANATION :- The anomalous expansion of water is an abnormal property of water whereby it expands instead of contracting when the temperature goes from 4o C to 0o C, and it becomes less dense. The density is maximum at 4 degree centigrade and decreases below that temperature as shown in graph. INDENTATION :- Dew point is an example of anomalous behavior of water. This anomalous expansion of water is an abnormal and unique property of water which shows expansion of water instead of contracting when the temperature goes from 4°C to 0°C, and water becomes less dense. At 4°C water density is highest.

Answer:

The anomalous expansion of water helps preserve aquatic life during very cold weather. When temperature falls, the top layer of water in a pond contracts, becomes denser and sinks to the bottom. A circulation is thus set up until the entire water in the pond reaches its maximum density at 4°C. If the temperature falls further, the top layer expands and remains on the top till it freezes. Thus even though the upper layer are frozen the water near the bottom is at 4°C and the fishes etc. can survive in it easily.
