Hy,
Antacids are pharmacological drugs which help in preventing / retarding acidity. Acidity occurs in stomach when stomach secretes excess of Hydrochloric acid.
The components of Antacids are- Aluminium and Magnesium salts.
The rationale of combining these 2 salts is-
1. Al salts cause diarrhea and Mg salts cause constipation, so combining them counteracts each other effects.
2. Systemic absorption of both the drugs is reduced and hence more drug is available at the site of action, i.e., stomach.
3. Increased duration of action of both the drugs.

Here is your answer buddy,

The longer an antacid stays in the stomach, the longer it works. And having some food in your stomach may actually prolong an antacid's effect. Most antacids contain at least one of these key ingredients: calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide and/or sodium bicarbonate.

Hope this helps you. Have a nice day!!
