The antineutrino (or anti-neutrino) is a lepton, an antimatter particle, the counterpart to the neutrino. Actually, there are three distinct antineutrinos, called types, or flavors: electron antineutrino (symbol ̅νe), muonantineutrino (symbol ̅νμ), and tauantineutrino (symbol ̅ντ).
