Apical Meristem :-

Apical meristem is present on root and shoot tips of the plant.

Types of Apical Meristem :-

This tissue divides and results in growth of stem and roots of the plant.

Intercalary meristem is present on leaf base and nodes.

Lateral meristem is responsible for increase in circumference i.e. girth of the stem or root of the plant.

APICAL MERISTEM

The meristems which occur at the tips of roots and shoots and produce primary tissues are called apical meristems.

They are responsible for increase in the length of plant organs. It means they are responsible for primary growth.

Examples of apical meristem :- Root apex/root apical meristem, shoot apex/shoot apical meristem.

Apical Meristem devided into three regions on the basis of function

Protoderm :

$\bigstar$ It is the outer most layer of eumeristem. By the activity of protoderm epidermal tissue system is formed E.T.S includes epidermis, stomata, stem hair etc.

Procambium :

$\bigstar$ It is made up of elongated cells and it gives rise to the Vascular tissue system. V.I.S includes Xylem, Phloem.

Ground Meristem :

$\bigstar$ The cells of this region are thin walled and isodiametric, Ground tissue is formed by the activity of these cells. G.T.S includes hypodermis, general cortex. endodermis, pericycle, pith-rays (medullary rays) and pith (medulla)
