Apis” is the genus of the honey bee and hence the name “Apiculture” The place where the honey bees are reared is called a “bee yard” or an “Apiary” The person who takes care of the Apiary is known as 'Apiarist'

Bees produce honey from the sugary secretions of plants. Although honey is an important ingredient in many food dishes, beeswax holds a lot of commercial significance too. It is used in the cosmetic and medical industry, as well as a coating for cheese, and as a food additive.

Apiculture is the maintenance of bee colonies, commonly in man-made hives, by humans. Most such bees are honey bees in the genus Apis, but other honey-producing bees such as Melipona stingless bees are also kept.
