Apomixis is a condition in which plants ( flowering plants ) reproduce asexually without undergoing the gametophytic phase. I mean, they replace their sexual reproduction ability by asexual reproduction methods. The main aspect of apomixis is that the particular plant will be able to produce offspring without undergoing fertilization ( without the involvement of pollen ) . They will produce seeds without undergoing fertilization.
⇒ Apomixis was able to overcome many disadvantages of common sexual reproduction. Like , through APOMIXIS plants will be able to produce enormous number of offsprings which are exact copies of the mother plant ( clones ). Another advantage is through this method, the farmers can easily produce new varieties without collecting many hybrids and there by can reduce their economical problems.
