What is apospory?

It is the process of Formation of gametophyte directly from sporophyte without meiosis.

Some information about apospory are:-

  • It was first found by Rosenberg in Hieracium plant.
  • In this method, embryosac or female gametophyte is directly formed from any diploid cell of the sporophyte that means from nucellus or integument without the process of meiosis.
  • Megaspore mother cell is a exception of this.
  • In this gametophyte always remains diploid such as Rubus, Hieracium & Ranunculus.
