Pyothorax is an infection in the chest cavity. “Pyo” means pus, and “thorax” means chest cavity. Pus in the chest cavity results in scarring and impaired lung function. The infection is fairly common in both dogs and cats, but it's actually quite serious and can be fatal if not treated promptly and aggressively.
