what is Aqua regia?
Answers
Answer:
aqua regia is mixture of 3 moles of concentrated HCL and 1 mole of concentrated HNO3 ...
it can even dissolve noble metals like gold and platinum
which usually do not react under normal conditions
it is only solution which can dissolve gold and platinum and convert them to their chlorides
Question-
What is Aqua Regia?
Answer-
Aqua Regia, is a chemical substance which is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid in the ratio of 3 : 1.
3HCL + HNO₃ → NOCl + 2[Cl] + 2H₂O
Aqua regia is mainly used to dissolve various noble metals such as gold and platinum that are anyways not soluble in other types of acids. The high reactivity of Aqua regia was found which is due to the formation of nascent chlorine.
The nascent chlorine is highly reactive as it has an unpaired electron in a high energy orbital and it is able to react with the gold (III) ions.
Thus, we can say that the mixture produces nascent chlorine which reacts with noble metals in order to dissolve them. The product of the mixture is more powerful than the sum of its parts.
