Aqua regia is the solvent in which gold dissolves.

it is also known as royal water.

it is formed by reacting of HCl Nd nitric acid
HCl+HNO3---
NOCl3

Aqua Regia:

Formation of aqua regia: A mixture having three parts of conc. hydrochloric acid and one parts of conc. nitric acid is called aqua regia.

3HCl + HNO3 ----> NOCl + 2H2O + 2[Cl]

Conc. . conc .

It gives nascent chlorine .The nascent chlorine reacts with noble metals like gold and platinum, to give their soluble chlorides.
