Archimedes' principle indicates that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether fully or partially submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces and it acts in the upward direction at the centre of mass of the displaced fluid
u may heard the story archimedes running naked an yelling ureka ureka.

funny story.... archimedes ,the philosopher discovered that volume could be measured by water displaced when he say down in the bathtub. upon making this discovery he ran naked on the street screaming Eureka !!!

anyway the proper statement is =a body totally or partially immersed in a fluid is subject to an upward force equal in magnitude to the weight of fluid it displaces.
