a law stating that a body totally or partially immersed in a fluid is subject to an upward force equal in magnitude to the weight of fluid it displaces.

when a body is wholly or partially immersed in a liquid, it experiences a buoyant force or upthrust which is equal to the weight of liquid displaced by the object.

buoyant force acting on a body = weight of liquid displaced by that object.
