If one part(Heteroatom i.e. One Hydrogen Atom because bond with Hydrogen is the weakest one )of a Carbon Compound is replaced by a Particular group of Atom(s).Such as Halogens , COOH , OH ,HCO , CO in a Particular and Fittest manner...The properties of the Carbon Compound change with respect to these groups...I.e. act as A functioning Part (in case of properties) ...These groups are called functional groups...!
