Arrhenius theory, theory, introduced in 1887 by the Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius, that acids are substances that dissociate in water to yield electrically charged atoms or molecules, called ions, one of which is a hydrogen ion (H+), and that bases ionize in water to yield hydroxide ions (OH−).

Hope it will help you.

Explanation:

The bronsted lowry theory does not go against the arrhenius theory in anyway if just said it . Hydroxide ions are still basis because they accept hydrogen ions from methods and form water . An acid produces hydrogen ions in solution because it reacts with water molecules by giving a Proton to them .
