Article 370:

  • Article 370 was the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern states. Jammu and Kashmir state have their own regional conflicts and issues; hence the status is provided.
  • The power of having a separate constitution was given to them through this article. In Western countries there was no such provision.
  • But on August 2019, this special status was revoked due to the presidential order.

The people of Kashmir have strongly resisted the question of repeal of article 370 due to the following reasons:

  • The special status granted by this article has been eroded in practice. They demand the restoration of autonomy.
  • The democracy applied in the rest of the states of India is different from the one that is applied in Jammu and Kashmir.
