"The term Ashta Pradhan is a Sanskrit word. It is a combination of two words i.e., Ashta and Pradhan which means "the Prime Eight”. Eight ministers are administered by the Maratha Empire. He is a king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and he formed the council in 1674.

The Peshwa is the senior member of the council called Mukhya Pradhan. He is the responsible person for general administration and held the seal of the state. The Amatya and Pant Sachiv would handle the finance sector segment. Sumanta is the person responsible for foreign affairs of the country."
