An association neuron is also referred to as relay neuron or the interneuron or the intermediate neuron. It is the nerve cell that is responsible for the transmission of signals or electrical impulses in an arc from the sensory neurons to the motor neurons. It, thus, forms the connector between the sensory and motor neurons.
