asteroid is a small rocky body orbiting the sun. Asteroids, ranging enormously in size, are found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, though some have more eccentric orbits.

Asteroids are small, solid objects that encompass the sun. They vary in size from about the size of stones to about 600 miles (~1,000 km) beyond.  Although they encompass the Sun, they are too smaller than the planets thus they are not recognized as planets and due to their small size, they are called Asteroids. In our solar system, there are a lot of Asteroids, most of them are found in the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter which is generally known as the Asteroid Belt.
