Explanation:

Atomic Mass

Atomic mass refers to the total mass of the proton and neutron present in the nucleus of an atom.

• It is represented by symbol

\boxed{\bigstar \; \mathsf{ {m}_{a}}}

SI unit : of atomic mass is Dalton (u) or amu (atomic mass unit).

Formula for calculating Average atomic mass

As we know atomic mass of an atom is decided by the mass of neutron and proton present in the atom.

But an Individual element can have different number of neutrons but it would only have a fixed number of protons. For example hydrogen had 3 isotopes (hydrogen, deuterium, and tritium.) each have 1 proton but each have different number of neutron hence it would be inaccurate to take the mass of any one isotope so instead of that we will take the average atomic mass of the isotopes. That is --

\boxed{\bigstar \mathsf{Avg\: Atomic\:Mass = {f}_{1} {m}_{1} + {f}_{2} {m}_{2}...... + {f}_{n} {m}_{n}}}

\implies \mathsf{Where}

\textsf{f = fraction representing natural abundance of isotopes}

\textsf{m = mass number of istopes}

\large \underline{\underline{\bold{\textsf{Key Words}}}}

Fraction of abundance

Fraction of abundance of an isotope means the abundance of a particular isotope on planet.

Mass Number

Total number of protons and neutrons in an atom.

Explanation:

A property closely related to an atom's mass number is its atomic mass. The atomic mass of a single atom is simply its total mass and is typically expressed in atomic mass units or amu. By definition, an atom of carbon with six neutrons, carbon-12, has an atomic mass of 12 amu.
