The unified atomic mass unit or dalton is a standard unit of mass that quantifies mass on an atomic or molecular scale. One unified atomic mass unit is approximately the mass of one nucleon and is numerically equivalent to 1 g/mol.

Atomic mass unit , now called as unified mass is a unit for measuring the mass of atoms. One amu is equal to 1/12th of the mass of one atom of carbon 12 isotope. Neglecting the mass of electrons which is very less, one amu is approximately equal to average of the mass of one proton and one neutron as one carbon 12 atom as 6 proton and 6 neutron. So,

One amu = (mass of one proton + mass of one neutron)/2

By calculating this you will get a value which is slightly greater than mass of proton but slightly less than mass of neutron.
