Atomic mass unit  ( amu )  is the unit for measuring the mass of atoms (or molecules) of different chemical elements in the nature.  It is denoted by "u" or amu. 

It is equivalent to 1/12 th of C(12) atom.  or 1.66 * 10⁻²⁷ kg.
