- The autonomic nervous system consists of a pair of chains of nerves and ganglia on either side of the backbone. Ganglia is a cluster of nerve cells. It controls all the involuntary activities of various body viscera (means internal body organs, especially those in the abdomen). Autonomic nervous system includes body functions of eye, heart, lung, liver stomach, and many more organs It is of two types - sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system
