Average clause is defined as a clause in an insurance policy requiring that you bear a proportion of any loss if your assets were insured for less than their full replacement value.

• For example: If a car is insured for only a proportion of its value (say half of its value), the insure is only liable for the same proportion of the loss, i.e. half when the claim is made.
