Blacklash error is a screw guage is actually an impairment in the screw threads. It is when we try to move the screw very fast or when we reverse the direction of thimble then screw does not moves in the opposite direction immediately and remains stationary. Therefore it give wrong reading.

Backlash error occurs in screw gauge, when we try to rotate the screw very fast to measure a reading. Then there is some slipping between the different screws instead of the rotation, which gives an incorrect reading, to avoid this we should rotate the screw slowly in only one direction.
