acids are those which ionises rapidly in aqueous solutions to give H+(aq) ions.
they are sour in taste and change the colour of blue Litmus Paper to red
eg HCl,H2SO4 etc
bases are those which ionizes rapidly in aqueous solutions to give OH-(aq) ions.
the are bitter in taste and change the colour of red litmus to blue
eg NaOH, KOH etc

Base- On hydrolysis it gives OH negative ion. It is bitter in test and feel soapy on touch. It turns red litmus paper blue.
Acid- On hydrolysis it gives H positive ion. It is sour in test and turns blue litmus paper red.
