The bases are those substance which gives hydroxyl ion when dissociate in water is called bases.

Ex:- KOH, NaOH, Mg(OH)2 etc.

Those bases which are soluble in water is called an alkalis.

Bases are also corrosive in nature.

They change red lithmus in to blue.

They are bitter in taste or soapy to touch.

There are two types of bases:-

Strong base

Weak base

WHAT IS A BASE?

Answer :

>> Base is a solution which releases hydroxide ions in water.

>> Bases can also be defined as the solutions..which turns the Red litmus into Blue.

>> The bases which dissolves in water are called as "ALKALI"

>> There are two types of BASES

1) Strong Bases :

=> Bases which ionizes completely in water are called as strong bases

=> Bases which produces more amount of hydroxide ions are called as strong bases

=> Ex: NaOH , LiOH etc..

2)Weak bases :

=> Bases which ionizes incompletely are called as WEAK BASES

=> Bases which produces less amount of hydroxide ions in water are called as weak bases

=> Ex: Na2CO3, NaHCO3 etc..
