Answer:

A civil society is a non-governmental organisation of individuals who through collective organisation have a function beyond the boundaries of the state and the Economy. A Civil (peaceful) society is one which has agreed via collective consensus which values are most important to campaign. Examples include the liberation movement in India with Ghandi and the African-American Civil rights movement with MLK. The benefits of Civil society is that 1. It promotes the notion of democracy not only through the ballot box but through actual activism. 2. It increases the pressure on the state and politicians to actually listen to the needs and demands of its citizens 3. It increases plurality and provides a voice to an often disenfranchised and discriminated section of a society. 4. It can counter act the influence that big business and wealthy investors/donors often have in politics in order to fulfill their policies 5.Its the only truly grassroots organisation.
