Bessemerisation:

Bessemerisation is the process of production of steel on industrial scales from pig iron. The pig iron is first melted and the air is passed through it to remove impurities through oxidation.

The hot air also aids in keeping the pig iron in a molten condition. This process is named after Henry Bessemer who got a patent after inventing this process.

This process was used before the invention of the open heath method of steel production.
