The rivers after descending from the mountains, deposit pebbles in a narrow belt of about 8 to 16 km in width lying parellel to the slopes of Shewaliks. It is known as Bhabar.

Bhabar is an area which lies to the South of the lower Himalayas and the Shiwalik Hills. It is alluvial overskirt of debris showered down from the Shiwalik along the northerly end of the Indo-Gangetic Plain.

The rivers, after disembarking from the heights silts stones in a narrow region of approximately 3 to 16 km in resting conforming to the inclinations of the Shivalik. It is recognized as bhabar.
