The name Bhabar refers to a local tall-growing grass, Eulaliopsis binata, used for the manufacture of paper and rope. Bhabar is the gently-sloping coarse alluvial zone below the Sivalik Hills (outermost foothills of the Himalayas) where streams disappear into permeable sediments.
