Bhagidari scheme is nothing but it meant people's participation . In short it aims to create greater participation of common citizens for the better execution and realization  of a scheme or a noble goal.

JAN BHAGIDARI is a powerful component incorporated in the concept of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. Where greater participation of people would bring effective outcomes in the developmental process and also in the protection and restoration of natural environment. Thus Jan Bhagidari was an  embedded goal in the effective implementation of 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments (Panchayati Raj ) in the country. Even Jan bhagidari has been a central theme of many environmental movements like Chipko movement, Narmada bachao andolan etc.

In the deepest sense JAN BHAGIDARI is the voice of the democracy. It aims to make political system more accountable , responsible and sensitive towards the needs and values of society.
