what is binary fission
Answers
The process of division of a parent organism to form two new organisms is called binary fission.
Eg., Binary fission in amoeba
Binary fission is the process in which the parent organism or simply an organism divides itself to form two new daughter organisms.
Mostly micro organisms like amoeba, leishmania, etc, perform this method of fission for reproducing.
How does amoeba reproduce thorugh the process of binary fission ?
When the parent amoeba reaches its maximum size of growth, then
• First, its nucleus lengthens and divides into two parts,
• Further, the cytoplasm in the organism's cell carries around each nucleus.
This way the cell of the parent amoeba divides to form two daughter amoeba.
The micro organism paramecium also reproduces through the method of binary fission like amoeba.
Leishmania, however, differs from the organisms mentioned above in terms of reproduction through binary fission as it divides itself longitudinally whereas the micro organisms like amoeba divides itself on any plane.
Binary fission is actually a type of FISSION which comes under the category of Asexual Reproduction.
Fission are of two types :
- Binary fission
- Multiple fission
