hello dear friend ,
your question's answer is :
see  today we have so many digits or numbers which take various forms using 0 to 9 (as symbols of calculation.)
but there was a time when only 0 &1(as symbols of calculation) were used for calculation ...& this system is known as binary system.!
now u can say that binary numbers are those having their base-2 ...means binary

but today we generally use base 10 number system, hence it is... decimal system.

okay now i think u can understand the meaning of "binary" word .
now lets jump to binary addition system:

 here 0+0 equals to 0.
1 +1 = 10 how ? ...lets see how because the first one contains carry of 1 and another has 0.

but if want to verify this ...here 1+1=10 ....just take the answer part and split its digits....10 into 1 & 0...now see 1(raised to 1)  + 0(raised to 0).....so this is how we get 1 +1 in our decimal system as 2.

Hope this helps...!!  thankyou & goodluck!! :)
