Answer :
Binomial Nomenclature is this system of providing a name with two components to all the living species.
It has been given by Carolus Linnaeus.
He published a book : Systema Naturae.
Universal rules of Nomenclature :
- The biological names are in Latin and are the written in italics.
- The first part of the scientific name is genus and the second part is specific epithet.
- When the scientific name is hand written, it is underlined and when printed, it is typed in italics to indicate their Latin origin.
- The genus starts with capital letter and specific epithet starts with small letter.
- The names are either derived from latin or latinised irrespective of their origin.
- The name of the author or the discoverer is mentioned after the specific epithet. For ex : Mangifera indica Linn. It is written in abbreviated form.
Some biological names of species :
- Mango : Mangifera indica
- Lion : Panthera leo
- Onion : Allium cepa
- Brinjal : Truticum aestivum
- Rose : Rosa indica
