It is an alternative fuel similar to conventional or ‘fossil’ diesel. Bio diesel is produced from vegetable oils, yellow grease, used cooking oils, and animal fats. The production process, called transesterification, converts oils and fats into chemicals called long-chain mono alkyl esters, which is called bio diesel when used as a fuel.

Biodiesel refers to a vegetable oil - or animal fat-based diesel fuel consisting of long-chain alkyl (methyl, ethyl, or propyl) esters. Biodiesel is typically made by chemically reacting lipids (e.g., vegetable oil, soybean oil, animal fat (tallow)) with an alcohol producing fatty acid esters.
