BIOMAGNIFICATION IS THE SUCCESSIVE INCREASE IN THE CONCENTRATION OF TOXIC SUBSTANCE FROM LOWER TROPHIC LEVEL TO HIGHER TROPHIC LEVEL. IT IS HIGHEST IN TOP PYRAMID OF FOOD CHAIN( OR FOOD WEB). EX:- USE OF DDT CAUSES THINNING OF EGG SHELL IN BIRDS DUE TO BIOMAGNIFICATION. SAME IS OBSERVED IN MERCURY POISONING ALSO IN HUMANS.
