A biodiversity hotspot is a BioGeographic region which exhibit a high degree of species richness, endemism and is threatened with destruction. They occupy only 2.3 % of the earth's land surface, but our home to more than 50% of the plants and more than 40% of the mammals and birds, reptiles and amphibians species of the world. Currently 36 such regions have been recognised all over the world three of these are present in India.
