Biodiversity is the variability in form and function of living organisms and their living systems.

'How can a large amount of biological diversity protect an ecosystem from environmental damage? Why are less biodiverse ecosystems at risk of suffering serious biological harm if subject to even small changes?'

To explain the above step let me give you an example.

consider a less diverse ecosystem of grassland which contain two close varieties of grasses in it.suppose a particular pest infects one of the variety of plant,it may also infect the other variety.as a result all two varieties of grasses are destroyed and the ecosystem is extinct.

Consider a much diverse ecosystem of grassland with 10 varieties of grasses in it.Even if pests affect few varieties of grasses, the other varieties may survive. They ecosystem still perishes.
