Biogeochemical cycle or substance turnover or cycling of substances is a pathway by which a chemical substance moves through biotic (biosphere) and abiotic (lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere) compartments of Earth.

The cyclic flow of energy and matter or chemical nutrients between biotic and abiotic components within the biosphere is called biogeochemical cycles are nutrients cycle . The nutrients that circulate between biotic and abiotic components are called biogeochemicals . Some major biogeochemical are carbon, nitrogen oxygen sulphur, Phosphorus and water . The four important biogeochemical cycles in nature are the water cycle, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle and oxygen cycle.
