Biological fixation is the process in which atmospheric nitrogen is converted into usable nitrogen compounds by nitrates by bacteria such as rhizobium. these bacteria present in the root nodules of the leguminous plants such as Pea and Beans.

Some of the ammonium compounds are absorbed by the plants and get converted into nitrates by the nitrogen fixing bactria. This is called nitrification.
