According to this system, plant species can be grouped into five main classes: phanerophytes, chamaephytes, hemicryptophytes, cryptophytes and therophytes. The percentage of various lifeform classes put together is called as the biological spectrum.

What is biological spectrum? Write about a note in it?

  • The biological spectrum is made up of various organisational levels, starting with the cell and its genes and progressing through tissues, organs, and organisms. The simplest unit of inheritance is the gene. The smallest living thing is a cell, which can exist on its own or as a component of a multicellular organism.
  • The three domains that make up the biological spectrum, which coexist at different levels of biological organisation, include all living things. Based on RNA and common ancestor comparisons, microbiologist Carl Woese arranged all recognised creatures into a phylogenetic tree of life. Bacteria, archaea, and eukaryota are the three domains, which are further split into kingdoms. From cellular to biosphere levels of biological organisation, all three domains are present.
  • The fundamental unit of structure and function in life is the single cell. Some species have just one cell, which carries out all the essential tasks for existence. Other species are multicellular and have specialised cells that divide their labour.
  • The biological complexity of multicellular organisms follows a hierarchy of life. Tissues are collections of cells that collaborate to carry out certain tasks. An organ is a group of related tissue types that cooperate to carry out a certain task. An organ system is a group of organs working together to perform a broader purpose.
