That’s an old joke - and it doesn’t work when you write it down.
It’s mean’t to be spoken. So the person asking it says:
“What’s black and white and read all over?”
…but the person listening to it hears:
“What’s black and white and red all over?”
…and the answer is supposed to be “a newspaper” - which is really unfortunate because for at least the last 10 years, most newspapers are printed in color. So they aren’t black and white as they were in the era of the joke.
