The Dutch in Java, first imposed rents on land being cultivated in the forest and then exempted some villages from these rents if they worked collectively to provide free labour for cutting and transporting timber. This was known as the blandongdiensten system.

The Dutch introduce the blandongdiesten system in java. Under this system a village has extended from rent on a cultivated land if the villagers work collectively to provide free labour and animals cutting and transporting timber. But later instead of rent exemption, forest villagers were getting small wages but their right to cultivate forest land was restricted.

Hope this helps
