Answer:Bleaching powder is a yellowish white solid and is one of the most useful bleaching agents particularly for textile and paper. The two main draw materials for manufacture of bleaching powder are soaked lime I.e., calcium hydroxide and chlorine. The two react as follows: Ca(OH)2+Cl2=CaOCl2+H2O

Uses:

1. For bleaching cotton,linen,wool pulp etc

2. For sterilisation of drinking water.

3. In rendering wool undrinkable.

4. In the manufacture of chloroform.

5. As an oxidizing agent in the laboratory.
