Blood pressure: Measurement and factors affecting it

The term “Blood pressure” means the force which is exerted by our blood against the walls of arteries (i.e., vessels which convey blood from our heart to various regions of our body).

How is it measured?

There are two numbers that are used to calculate blood pressure:

•When heartbeats, systolic blood pressure which is considered as the first and higher number, measures the pressure inside our arteries.

• There's also diastolic blood pressure, which is the pressure inside an artery while the heart isn't beating.

Factors that affect Blood Pressure:

• Having a family history.

• Being physically unfit.

• Obesity.
