Blood, fluid that transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells and carries away carbon dioxide and other waste products. Technically, blood is a transport liquid pumped by the heart (or an equivalent structure) to all parts of the body, after which it is returned to the heart to repeat the process.

Blood is a fluid type of connective tissue consisting of a fluid matrix, plasma and formed elements.

  • Blood is a red coloured fluid which is pumped by the heart.
  • It is a main transport system because it transport various elements to the various parts of the body.
  • It has four main components :- Red blood cells (RBC), White blood cells (WBC), Plasma and platelets.
  • Blood flows through the entire circulatory system.
  • Blood carries waste products and carbon dioxide. i.e It is called the carrier of useful substances.
  • An average sized man contains 5-6 litres of the blood.
